We are licensed by the MA Dept. of Early Education and Care. We adhere the developmentally appropriate curriculum and guidelines of NAEYC and Creative Curriculum, understanding that all children have different area of strengths; therefore, they all learn differently. We understand that no child of the same age is alike or learns alike!
We also believe that children learn best through experience, movement, play, and activities that capture their interest; therefore, we supplement our curriculum with field trips, and a Yoga/Movement Instructor.

The Infant room is a small, quiet and home-like atmosphere, Each baby has their own crib and each parent gets a report of what they did at the end of the day. It is all about meeting the individual needs of each baby, and beginning to introduce them to their first social experience, as well as building new attachments. We work closely with families to achieve this goal.
When the babies are awake, they are either playing on the floor with other babies, eating with other babies, or being held by their teachers, Marie, who has been with the center since 2001 and Ann, her Assistant Teacher. If the weather permits, they are either outside on the Toddler play yard, or go for a walk in the strollers. Look for us out and about in our 3 and 4 seaters.
The Toddler room looks more like a classroom than the Infant room. It is set-up with centers, reading area, block area, a dramatic play area, and soft climbing blocks. Unlike the Infant room, there is a classroom schedule. This classroom follows the Creative Curriculum program and assessment tool. There is a free-play, circle time, snack, art activity, outdoor, lunch, and nap time.
This classroom is about beginning to foster a sense of independence, exploration, and self-esteem, and of course preparing them for Preschool. Toddlers need to learn cooperative play skills, sitting and attending to task for a small period of time, as well as how to follow simple directions. The teachers utilize Gross and Sensory Motor Activities, as well as Language as major components in this curriculum, because that is how Toddlers learn. They explore and copy what they see! The Lead Teacher, Courtney, who has been with RECC for almost 4 years does not shy away from messy activities. Her co-teachers, Nicole, and volunteer parent, turned co-teacher, Lisa, are just as eager! Parents receive a daily notebook on their child's day.
The Preschool classroom is right next door to the Toddler room, making for an easier transition for the children. This room has a maximum capacity of 12 children. Robyn, who has been at the center since 2001 is the Assistant Director and Lead Teacher in this classroom. She is close to achieving her goal of earning an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has an Assistant teacher, keeping our ratios at 1:6, rather than the state 1:10 ratio.
The Preschool classroom also follows the Creative Curriculum program and guidelines. The Preschool classrooms is broken up into centers where the children are given choices as to what activities they are interested in, as well as a structured circle and activity time. The teachers meet twice a month to plan and implement new ideas and materials into their classroom curriculum. Monthly field trips in school and outside of school are a major aspect of this program, as well as our Yoga/movement instructor, Jennifer.
Robyn posts the schedule, as well as the daily activities outside and inside the classroom to keep parents informed. The Preschool classrooms focuses on fostering independence, socialization, cognitive development, and preparing for Pre-K.
The Pre-K room is separated from the rest of the school, since they need the most room and have the biggest kids. Amy, who has been with us for almost a year, the Lead Teacher has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Lindsay, her co-teacher and our newest addition to the RECC team, has a Bachelors Degree in Social Work. The maximum capacity for this classroom is 15 children, giving us a 1:7/8 ratio maximum, still well below the state regulations and standards.
This classroom is all about getting ready for Kindergarten and all that entails, including cooperative play, listening and following directions, large group activities, pre-math, reading, and writing skills, as well as age appropriate Fine and Gross Motor skills, and independence.
This classroom follows the state approved Creative Curriculum program and assessment tool. The teachers meet twice a month to plan and implement new ideas and materials into their classroom curriculum. Monthly field trips in school and outside of school are a major aspect of this program, as well as our Yoga/movement instructor, Jennifer.
Amy and Lindsay post the schedule, as well as the daily activities inside the classroom to keep parents informed. We work closely with the Rockport Public School system to ensure smooth transitions to Kindergarten.
