Note From the Director, Denise Johnsen

I have worked at RECC since the summer of 2001 and have been an owner since July 2002..  I have a Bachelor’s Degree in special education and I am certified to teach both special and elementary education in New York and California. My specialty is children in need and I also serve as a consultant to my staff.

 

I taught Preschool Special Education to a language delayed, underprivileged population in NYC for four years until I moved to California. While in San Diego, I did substitute teaching in the public elementary school system. In Massachusetts, I took a position as a director of a Head Start program in Newton, MA until my son became seriously ill. After being home with him for two months, I made the decision to go back to a teaching position that was closer to home. That is when I began teaching at the Rockport Early Childhood Center. My family has been in New England since 1998 and we feel very rooted here.

 

I was always very impressed with the quality daycare that RECC provided. It always had a warm feeling to me.  It is a place where people care about young children and the children come first. I believe in the program's philosophy and have seen the positive results first hand.  We are very fortunate to have an experienced and dedicated staff, as well as loving and caring parents. It is truly a wonderful place to be and I look forward to many more years of working with RECC families and their children.
